SolSeed Meetup
Research shows we are happiest when connected to others and working toward a cause that is greater than ourselves. SolSeed is simply one experiment in how to live this way without giving up reason and autonomy.
Ben's introduction: Hi, I'm Ben Sibelman. I live in Redmond, Washington, and I've been helping to shape SolSeed for five years (when I started out, I was still in college in southern California). And this is my cat, Petra.
First meeting ideas
- Introductory/orientation/social event first ... demystify it a bit ... with food
- Services and work bees (not listed on the Meetup site)
- Should we require people to attend one Meetup first?
- Or just send an email orientation to those who ask to attend services?
- Invite everyone to the Solstice?
- Retreat sometime in winter, or maybe summer (Kindred 2012)?
- Meeting(s) at Ben's parents' place?
Secular Families Meetup
Group already exists; Shelley is planning to host a meeting
Bioregenerative Life Support
- Found people at three universities
- Should look into companies, conferences, journals, workshops, symposia
- Start a Facebook or LinkedIn group
Pledge to Ignore Political Ads
- Ben is worried this will take too much time away from SolSeed homework
- Brandon says this sounds like a SolSeed project (bringing life, happy in the sun) ... Shelley agrees
Evaluation
- Brandon ... encouraged by the Meetup ... discouraged by how much there is to do ... feel the need to focus
- Ben ... felt like this meeting was not long enough to accomplish what we wanted to accomplish even though the goals were relatively modest ... maybe we should consider 90 minute meetings again
- Shelley ... a little overwhelmed ... glad Sequoia finally went to sleep
