Check In

  • Ben ... headache (enough to leave work a little early) ... thinking about the trip! (yayay!)
  • Sequoia ... still awake even though sleepy time (just like last night), though fairly cheerful ... learning to go to sleep without drinking milk ... worried that he won't be able to sleep this whole call
  • Shelley ... had dreams of doing some work tonight ... work email inbox is full (need to empty) ... grateful to have opportunity to go in to work ... worked all day and got no fun
  • Brandon ... because didn't have to go in to work, was able to watch Sequoia today (for 2 hrs) ... worked on new job, got oriented and making some progress

WWWs from last time

  • Brandon ... contact Jason about getting together for food some time in the next 3 months ... start coordinating with Shelley and Ben ... by Tuesday
  • Brandon ... fix MediaWiki search ... by next call (only on SolSeed website though, still need to do SpaceWiki)
  • Brandon ... get together portraits/logos/company etc for sponsors and program committee ... by Thursday
  • Ben ... finish the banner (vector-graphics version of logo) ... by next call
  • Ben and Brandon ... write articles about the SpaceVision sponsors ... by next Thursday (Ben wrote stubby articles that will be enough for now)
  • Shelley ... prepare next service ... by Sunday

  • Outreach:
    • Yellow:
      • About page on SpaceWiki includes the guy we got it from and SolSeed ... also have NewSpace 2010 featured as a sponsor (we promised that too and didn't do it)
      • Choose to be either a nonprofit or a church first ... working on this
      • Put out a newsletter every month ... on track
    • Green:
      • Go to one conference or convention ... Ben already handed out some trifolds at Bioneers, and we're definitely doing SpaceVision
      • Get one more person contributing on the work-bee calls
    • Super Green:
      • Incorporate the nonprofit or church
      • Transfer Earthseed.org to the nonprofit or church
      • Get three more people contributing on the work-bee calls
  • Business: Done!
    • Yellow: Business established (sole proprietorship)
    • Green: Business is making actual money
    • Super Green: Business is making $9000/month
  • Spiritual Practice:
    • Yellow: Solstice celebration and UnConference ... see below
    • Green: Short service once a week that is for Shelley, Ben, and Brandon ... on track
    • Super Green: Initiate some sort of daily spiritual practice for BBS
  • Place:
    • Yellow: Advertise for the Eco-Village on Craigslist ... doing this soon
    • Green: Have a meeting of people who respond to an ad about living in the eco-village
    • Super Green: Have the SolSeedVillage sign made and put up

      • Publish kid's book ... priority to do this before Thanksgiving
      • Answer what the big book is for ... soon

Solstice Event

  • Let people know about it this week
  • Same model as last year: unconference with party at the end
    • Solstice is on a Tuesday, so unconference could be Saturday-Sunday-Monday, leaving Monday afternoon and a full day on Tuesday to prepare for the party
    • Have the unconference somewhere other than the SolSeedVillage?
      • Portland State Aerospace Society could be co-conveners, and we could get a location at PSU
      • Daybreak might be a good location
      • Falcon's Crest at Government Camp (site of Seed 2009)
    • If we do it at the house, be really clear on who's staying and how late, and have Brandon care for Sequoia some of the time
      • Brandon is spending a lot of time at conferences in the next couple months ... going to ICANN conference in Colombia December 3-10 (potential business opportunity for SolSeed)
      • We could uncouple the unconference and have it later than the solstice, maybe early February

SpaceVision

  • We have a banner, and probably some caricature printouts from last time
  • Need a battery for one of the laptops
  • Will stay in a cheap motel

Church or NonProfit

Continuation of discussion from last time

  • Ben would be fine with having a church as long as I was allowed to be qualificationalist enough about it.
    • Third example of this: Because we believe in wiki principles, this will not become an ossified institution [...]
    • Can we think of a word other than "religion" to avoid having to keep mentioning all those caveats?
  • Names
    • SolSeed is a bad choice because you're part of "the body of all life on Earth" whether you like it or not
    • Church/Seeds of Gaia would be good names in that a lot of people would recognize the Gaia concept
  • A church can make it difficult for us to get respect for our other organizations ... tainting our businesses and nonprofits
    • We would be focusing even more on depth ... support people who want to make this their way of life, rather than just resonating with the epic story
  • Can we just found a religion for the three of us, and then decide whether it's central to the SolSeed Movement?
    • Keep it sort of secret for awhile so it doesn't freak anyone else out?
    • We could at least look at our answers to the IRS questions for designation as a religion ... might help clarify our thought process

  • Brandon ... get together portraits/hardware shots for sponsors and program committee ... by Thursday
  • Brandon ... get our existing caricatures printed out somehow ... by tomorrow
