Draft of trifold language
The word SolSeed means "the body of all life on Earth."
We believe that:
- All life is precious.
- The Destiny of SolSeed is to take root amongst the stars.
What we're about:
- Healing, sustaining, and nurturing life on Earth.
- Becoming a society of "starfarers," people with the values and consciousness needed to fulfill the Destiny.
- Fulfilling the Destiny: Helping life spread out from Earth to plant the seeds of new living worlds throughout the Galaxy.
The story so far:
- SolSeed was partly inspired by the fictional Earthseed religion in Octavia Butler's two Parable novels.
- The wiki site was established in February 2005, and is now hosted at solseed.org.
- We attracted members and friends in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Illinois, Virginia, and New York.
- We held three major in-person gatherings in Oregon in 2009.
What we're doing now:
- Attending conventions like this one in search of like-minded people.
- Building a local community in Portland through monthly gatherings.
- Finishing up a music video and a children's book.
What we're planning:
- A bigger book and another video to introduce ourselves and our vision.
- A new wiki site to serve as a hub for contacts in the space industry.
- A SolSeed eco-village in east Portland.
Request to Disney Legal
Dear Mr. Perden:
I represent a small group called SolSeed that combines a deep concern for life on Earth with the goal of helping life expand into space. We would like to distribute a music video to spread the word about our goals and vision. The music video would be noncommercial and might be made available online. We've developed a complete draft of the video using the song "Down to Earth" by Peter Gabriel as the music track, as well as a few images of Earth and a spaceship from the movie WALL-E. May we have permission to use this material?
Enclosed is a DVD with the draft video.
