Happy in the Sun
- Brandon met with Kevin and set WWWs for both of them
- Goal is to have them all done by next call
- We'll then be ready to get another test copy
Seed 2011 next steps
- Candidates for leveling up
- Gus
- Mathew
- Ted (not a Seed 2011 participant)
- Jerry
- Service project
- Shelley's group felt like if she would just organize something, they would show up
- If we got 20 people for 2 hours, for example, that would be 1/5 of our yearly goal
- Ideas (mostly from How can we serve? session):
- Gus: Living history project: old people telling the stories of their youth to kids
- Shelley: Nursing Mothers Association "Mommy Moments" cell phone forwarding for breastfeeding issues (probably not a group project)
- Homeless populations in Portland
- Meg: I don't want to give money directly because it coud support drug use
- Serving food instead
- Use unused land, pick fruit from public trees
- Brandon: Hands On Portland projects
- Gus: gleaners (harvesting what the actual harvesters miss) ... Ben's 2nd-favorite idea
- Ben: Arboretum or similar place
- Shelley: Cutting ivy that's eating the trees
- Trail maintenance, trash cleenup
- Meg: Mt. Tabor & Tryon Creek State Park work parties
- Molly: teaching English to day laborers (she's already doing this)
- Village Building Convergence (4 1/2 months from now) ... our current favorite idea
- Advantage: we could point to this for a long time to come
- But deadline for new proposals was January 28th
- We could still participate heavily in whatever project(s) they're doing this year, which might encourage them to consider our proposal for next year
- Hours spent planning the VBC around Seed Village for next year can count toward our service goal
- Pick a project that's inspiring to one or more of the participants and get one of them to lead the process?
- Have a potluck sooner
- Discuss the service project
- Invite the architects
- Include games and/or arts & crafts
- Have it on the equinox (Sunday March 20), in the morning?
- Probably not, since we may want to have it sooner to keep the group connected
- Have it at Ted's place?
- Shelley prefers more meaningful events rather than just-plain-social events
- Service project should be the main focus
- If the games come out later, that's okay
- Could have a conference call instead, maybe on a weeknight?
- Or at least conference Ben and Gus in?
- Try for this coming Saturday
Earth Day
- Brandon wants to get 3 covered booths
- Mural, spiral planter, and a couple new thing
- Include Cloacina and Gus's stuff
- Need to ping them
Equinox
- Sunday March 20
- Ben would like it to be earlier in the day so he can get back to Seattle the same day
- Group hike, maybe in the Columbia Gorge
- Maybe Jerry could lead it?
- For children, max length would be 2 miles round-trip
- Balance/equanimity-type theme
- Concepts from The Upward Spiral: balanced flows, dynamic equilibrium
- Could play the slowing-the-water game, especially if it rains
- Have everyone pack a lunch
Seed Village
- Dinner with the architects was mixed
- They're into process, revising as we go
- Christopher Alexander: "pattern language"
- Mystical view of architecture being the center of the universe ... a bit irritating to Shelley
- But they did say that the space you build doesn't enable your goals by itself ... the people who are there really matter
- Have a 3-way videoconference with Brandon & Shelley, Ben, and the architects?
- Ben would feel awkward if it was just him and the architects
WWWs
- Brandon ... mail out the SEDS Contest prizes ... tomorrow
- Brandon ... get search working on SpaceWiki ... by next call
- Brandon ... another test copy of "Happy in the Sun" ... by call after next
- Brandon ... try to sign up for 3 Earth Day booths ... by next call
- Brandon ... have coffee with Roberto ... by next call
- Brandon ... ask Ted if he wants to host the "service potluck" and possibly become a Contributing Member ... by next call (if yes, send invitation)
- Brandon ... talk to Mathew about Earth Day and ask if he wants to become a SolSeed Member by Declaration ... by next call
- Brandon ... send email to see if we can coordinate a three-way call with the architects ... by next call
- Shelley ... take picture of marigolds and send it out to everyone, including a save-the-date for the Equinox ... by next call
- Ben ... talk to Gus about Earth Day and ask if he wants to become a SolSeed Member by Declaration ... by next call
