- Sequoia: Beh!
- Ben: I need to work on being more accepting of the frequent difficulties w/ the baby/toddler
- Shelley: I cannot force Sequoia to do certain things and I know it's frustrating for others and I feel badly about this.
- Brandon: Really hungry. Really hungry!
Thoughts on the book
- Not really willing to build stuff ourselves
- Should have gotten consensus training before we started
- Should have done the visioning exercises before we started
- In general, we're in a rush compared to what she normally thinks makes sense
- Earth Day is acting as a driver
- Want a decision log
- Want goals achieved log
- Shared financial record
- Mission/vision statement
- About meetings ... seems like evaluating how a meeting went at the end might be useful
- On page 32 ... outreachy sorts of things we should do on our website (interests, values, and plans, how to join us, financial contributions, FAQs, make it simple to request info from the website, want info to only draw those who resonate with values and vision etc,)
- Consensus with three people
- Brandon doesn't think we'll need a facilitator who doesn't take sides in the discussion
- Should still get training
- Caring for Sequoia makes things complicated
- But families are "foundational," have a stability the community lacks
- Brandon thinks we have slightly different visions
- Delegate things to individuals rather than committees
- Brandon thinks Ben is emotionally mature enough to not think "This is going to fix my life"
- We don't have to hang out more than we want
- Ben can even eat some meals in the ADU after grabbing food from the kitchen
- We need a pet policy
- Writing things down is very important
Scheduling
- Have a call just for Seed Village .... not going to just extend the normal work bee calls (eats into sleep time)
- Sunday April 10 at 3PM meet with Jason and Ben calls in
- Sunday April 17 at 3PM we do a call
Vision Statement
Seed Village is a group of 'Starfarers' living in intentional community for the sake of friendship, sustainability, and working to seed the galaxy with life.
Where do we put more emphasis?
- Cherishing the earth
- Embracing science
- Hastening the fulfillment of The Destiny
- Living in community
- Probably not mostly something we see as an end in itself for Seed Village ... we wouldn't be living together if it weren't for our shared goals
Evaluation
- Shelley: It's really tough with Sequoia like this, but we persevered
- Brandon:
- Put the laptop on the board next time so Sequoia can't play with it
- Someone should create the agenda ahead of time
- Ben: We should review that agenda and make sure we all agree with it before proceeding
- Ben: Not sure an hour is long enough
- Brandon: Could schedule a weekend for this around the Summer Solstice
