Summary of the April 21, 2009 SolSeedCall

Mark, Ben, Bonnie, Brenna, Bob, Shelley, and Brandon were all on the April 21 call. We spent half the time discussing the first several chapters of The Untethered Soul. We're reading The Untethered Soul to prepare ourselves for Sol2009. I highly recommend reading it even if you don't join the calls or attend Sol2009. We finished the call by going over plans for Sol2009 and creating a SteeringCommittee to lead the formation of a non-profit organization for the SolSeedMovement. The non-profit itself will have its first official meeting at Sol2009.

We'd love to see you on the next call. It's fun and never goes for more than 1 hour.

==Opening Words - (5 mins) Mark: The SolSeedMovement exists to bring together and support all those who believe that Life is Precious. 

Boni: (The greatest use of life is to spend it for something that outlasts it)


Brenna: It is about supporting each other in living the highest quality lives we can create, 

Boni:(Greatness lies not in trying to be somebody but in trying to help somebody.)

Bob: and more broadly it is about supporting and nurturing all of Life (including tomatoes, celery, and leeks), helping it thrive and grow. 

Boni: (If the world seems cold to you, kindle fires to warm it)


Shelley: The members of the SolSeedMovement are striving to form a community, and working to develop a philosophy written in the form of a scripture and based on the central tenet that Life is Precious. 


Boni: (People who say that something is impossible should not interrupt those who are getting it done)


Ben: We believe that living according to this philosophy means becoming a specific kind of people we refer to as starfarers


Boni: (You cannot kindle a fire in another’s heart until it is burning in your own.)

  • Mark: Really dug the quotes, liked starfarers motto, all for kindling a fire in our own hearts ... was in LA and saw clients and visited friends, hot and sunny, shimmering sea, palm trees, made me look forward to our own camp trip
  • Shelley: man I just love those opening words, I thought they were so inspiring, I could tell that boni thought about it ... and I think the vegetables are precious bob ... I'm a happy girl ... working hard as usual ... (insert deep quote here)
  • Boni: I have just loved the sunshine and the warmth, makes you feel good seeing the flowers come, worked outside and a good kind of tired
  • Bob: Just before this call rammed an egg-shell under my fingernail, had I been nurturing the egg shell and not broken it it never would have happened ... lessons learned Shelley: don't stick pussy-willows up nose (??)
  • Brenna: I saw my first wind-surfer on the ocean and they were really flying and I thought "what freedom" and I'm sure they weren't always able to ride that board so well but since they stuck to it they are able to ...
  • Ben: I bring accomplishment and exhaustion ... I was able to get together 20 people (hoping for 50) ... 4 speakers were very eloquent (first time I was ever a moderator) ... group photo ... inside with stimulating discussion that lasted well past the event ... had to herd people out the door
  • Brandon: I bring concentration and efficiency. We're doing really well at work this quarter (congratulations); but yet there is incompleteness, b/c I believe I have done as much as I could, but that is still not enough. Dissonance to take a look at. And I really loved the opening words.

Topic 1: The Untethered Soul (15 mins)

Who's read the book? -BONI (to Chapter 7) ... pg 42 friend breaks up, depressed home sleeping piggy no energy too tired to do anything, THEN friend "worst mistake ever made, please forgive me?" ... now how are you doing? ... nothing changed physically ... thanks for sharing this book with us -BOB (vicariously) ... remembered personal genius ... but no specifics ... deaf guy, may only hear the voices -S & B ... hearer of voice rather than voice itself, real cause of problems is not life itself but the commotion the mind makes about life ... back-seat driver ... energy principle (blocked somehow more than the circumstances) -Mark ... thought "which one is the real one" before -Brenna ... if you are hearing it talk it is obviously not you ... story about waiting for the girlfriend to call ... "she doesn't care for you, going to break up with you ... blah blah blah ... then she calls and says shes on her way over to pick you up" ... what if you had hired a relationship coach that had given you such bad advice ... using voice again ... happiness dependant upon somebody else and not coming from within -Ben ... just reserved it from the library ... yay! (mark says you'll dig it) Stuff

Topic 2: Sol 2009 Invitation & Logistics (15 mins)

  • Food ... individual? group? help yourself from provided, different families take on different meals (preparation and cleanup) ... 8 meals, 8 teams

Sol 2009: Who are we?

Ray of summer sun, Inseparable from Sol, Know yourself and thrive.

Who are we as Life?
Who are we as individuals on a spiritual journey?
Who are we as members and friends of the SolSeed Movement?

Join us the weekend of June 27th 2009 at Cape Lookout State Park on the Pacific coast of Oregon as these "questions of being" shape our community and practice.

At this family friendly weekend there will be camping, hotdogs, marshmallows, philosophizing, songs around the campfire, sand-castles, and the development of a core action plan for how we will "Bring Life" together.

You're welcome to arrive as early as Friday night (after 4 pm) and leave as late as Tuesday morning (before 1 pm). Meals will be provided Friday supper through Monday breakfast.
